Original Meeting Announcement

Bacterial Adhesion & Infection 2005naugural Conference
Senegal & The Gambia, West Africa
February 16th-24th, 2005

The Study of and Interference with Protein-Carbohydrate Interactions in the Adhesion of Bacterial Pathogens

This meeting will address the topic of adhesion of bacterial pathogens to tissue surfaces, which is a prelude to infection. The molecular biology and structural characterization of important adhesion proteins will be discussed. Furthermore, multidisciplinary elements come from the work the design and chemical synthesis of adhesion inhibitors of various chemical nature, such as multivalent carbohydrates. Such inhibitors could be alternatives to resistance prone conventional antibiotics. The mix of representatives of various disciplines linked to the topic should be a good opportunity to initiate new collaborations and consortia.

A Unique Meeting in Two Parts:

Part 1 - Feb 16th-20th, Dakar, Senegal

Part 2 - Feb 20th-24th, Soma, The Gambia

There are not one but two venues for this unique meeting in two parts – Part 1 will take place in a university setting in Dakar, Senegal, while Part 2 will be held at a relaxed riverside conference facility in Central Gambia. It represents the first of a series of forthcoming meetings to be held in a range of developing regions throughout Africa, Asia and Latin America. In addition to the fascinating environment and stimulating atmosphere for discussion generally, this meeting experience will enable the scientists and students of the developed and developing world research communities, with shared scientific interests and common goals, to come together like never before.

It's not just another Meeting
Both from a personal and professional standpoint it will be one of the most interesting, enlightening and ultimately rewarding conference experiences you will have the chance of participating in throughout your career.  If you work in the field, or a related field, please consider participating, your interest is truly welcome.
